fatsy

I brought an 8 lb 1 oz baby boy into this world, and like all tiny's he lost a few ounces post-birth. Since then though, he has struggled to re-gain those lost ounces and because I had been strictly nursing, I really had no idea how much he was or was not getting. He is a great sleeper, only getting up twice a night---but that sleepiness has resulted in sleepy eating too, so when he's latched we're not quite sure he's taking it all in.

Like all motherhood adventures things don't always go as you plan and his dr's recommended we add an ounce of formula after every feeding. Not a big deal, I know...but I had these sweet mommy thoughts of Hudson getting everything he needed from me :(

It was obviously a no-brainer for us to throw in that extra ounce because puffing him up is of course number one priority. So I now nurse, pump, formula-feed, and take Fenugreek {all thanks to Kyndal, my mommy guru} and have now officially turned into a milking cow. Complete with lace teet pads...lace.

I forgot to wear them yesterday and I quickly regreted my mistake in doing so. My faucets leak like Niagara Falls. Bring your parka...it's raining milk, folks.

Please say a little prayer for us this morning----today should be his last weigh-in to see if we've plumped him up enough. If not, they will have me give him even more formula. The appts have been hard on me because these dr's seem strangely unsupportive of my strictly breastfeeding agenda which left me feeling very bitter and even more determined to find a way to chunk him up via mommy.

Thankfully, he doesn't mind the extra add-in of bottles and has still loved being latched on to his mommy ♥

These are great pictures, Natalie! You look sooooo good!
I understand the struggles that come w/breastfeeding. Cayson got a bad case of jaundice due to not eating enough and my dr wanted me to supplement water or formula. The local lactaid(is that the right word?) consultant helped immensely and we got over the hump.
It's great that Hudson is doing good going between Mommy & bottle! Cayson was a champ at that as well. Be greatful.... that means later on, you can leave him with Daddy and expressed milk and not worry!

LOVE the new diaper bag!!!

I told you the fenugreek would turn you into a momma cow! Forgot to mention, though, that it will also make you smell like a big pancake! Have you noticed that yet?
P.S. You're 2 1/2 weeks out and look better than me 8 months out. But I'm not bitter. Not at all. :)

You don't know me, but I'm just a fellow Mommy reader and came across your page through a friend. I just want to send you some words of encouragement, as I too went through the SAME thing with my son when I first had him. Nursing, being told to add formula, stressing about not stricting nursing, how he would react to the formula (spit ups, constipation, etc), the stress of pumping when you already have 1000 other things to do, etc. You are doing great! :) Do not stress about your milk supply either. Even when you think you are 'empty', he is getting something. Love to see your pictures and follow your journey with your precious little guy. Best of luck to you!

You have a beautiful family! Don't let the doctor's intimidate you - they are there for you! If you aren't comfortable with your doc, find another. I know from experience that it doesn't have to be that way. Your doctor should support whatever you want to do, as long as it's healthy for you and the baby! Good luck!

What pretty pictures.
Sorry to hear that you can't just bf and get Hudson all fattened up. I will keep him in my prayers that he starts to gain weight and the doctors are happy with what they see.

Ty was so jaundice from his delivery that we had to do the same thing. Just in the past couple of days I've decided to stop breastfeeding and stick strickly to formula. He's done much better since we've made the switch and I no longer feel like a slave to the pump. Praying for ya'll!

I hate that the Drs don't seem supportive of you strictly breast feeding! I've never heard of that! Hope the weigh in goes great today and glad you've gotten your supply beefed up! My Molly was a very sleepy eater as well... in the beginning it's really hard to know if you they are getting enough!

Okay girl... how is it even humanly possible to look this GREAT after having a baby?? Beautiful family pic! Love your diaper bag!!!

I bet you have fattened him up enough momma!!

I had to do the same thing with my little man. I was mostly pumping and feeding him via bottle, but the doctor had us add formula to my milk. It definitely helped plump my little one up, and it cuts back on the number of times you have to feed.

Get 'em, girl! You look fantastic!

Best wishes with the fenugreek (what a funny word!), and I hope that Mr. H added some oz's at his appt.

No matter what, you're a great mama and I'm sure that nothing will take the place of your nursing bond ;)

You look phenomenal!

I must now stop following you as I feel completely inadequate as a female who has never birthed a child and never looked so great!! ;)

What an adorable little family! You look absolutely fabulous. Can't even tell you've just had a baby!

You can always supplement with some of the milk you are pumping. If you don't want to give Hudson formula, don't feel pressured to do so =)

You look fantastic and it seems that you are figuring things out just perfectly. I'm going to read up on this little blog of yours so you can teach me your mommyhood ways!

I can't remember how I came across your blog but have been following for a while now. You are making Mommyhood look FABULOUS. Breastfeeding is such a different experience for everyone, and I totally understand your frustrations! I pumped EXCLUSIVELY for 5 straight months until my daughter finally decided one day she was ready to get the hang of it (talk about being a slave to the pump), and then breastfed the rest of her first year. Just hang in there, so many mama's give up too quick. You're doing a wonderful thing for Hudson, and I can tell you are dedicated! Congrats on your sweet little family :)
