mommy help

Had my 35 week appt yesterday {even though 35 isn't really until Thursday}...Hudson is still measuring exactly his "age", head down, and it's low low low.

The nurse told me that 37 weeks is considered full term so to be prepared two weeks from now, because he could come at any time. OH MY. We will meet our sweet tiny for sure in the next month or so!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess it's bag-packin' time, and I really don't know what the essentials are! Do any of you mommies have suggestions for me or know of any other mommy posts about this that I haven't read?!?!? PLEASE HELP!!

No kids here, so I can't help you, but a friend did a post about this:

I bet it would be helpful.

Just having gone through the experience a little over 2 months ago I suggest:
-don't bother with PJ's (they will just get dirty) the gowns work fine, just bring a robe to walk around in.

-don't worry about pads or diapers the hospital supplies them. They also give you the lovely mesh panties and disposable ice packs (ask for a few extra before you go home)

-hygiene and beauty supplies

- baby's going home outfit/blanket
- your going home outfit (make sure it is easy to put on and comfy because you will be a little sore)

-cameras, phone,laptop, chargers

-snacks for you and dad, if you deliver late at night the cafeteria may be closed and the gift shop charges a ton for them.

-Car seat

- keep everything to a minimum, and it will be less stuff to lug home. You will be amazed at what little stuff you really need.
Hope this helps!

I totally agree with the post above. The hospital provides you with a lot of stuff. And the list she gave was perfect.

You really will have so much stuff to take home, especially if people send you presents and flowers while you're in the hospital. :)

I'm having my 3rd in 12 days, and in my bag I have a going home outfit for the baby, toiletries so that I can feel clean and semi-presentable, and then just comfy tanktops for nursing and comfy baggy shorts. Pack light and friends and family can always run home for the one or two things you wish you had packed.

BTW I really enjoy reading your blog. :)

I've been told to bring a few pj changes since we'll most likely bleed through a few pairs. yuck!

I wish I would have taken cute pjs/clothes. I just wore the provided gowns because I didn't want to mess up my own. I wish I was "Cuter" for pictures. I second snacks - maybe gum. Also, slippers and socks, baby book (ask them to put Hudson's sweet feet on the right page- I just took scrapbook paper for them to put his feet on), ipod w/speakers.

I agree with the list above...except I'd bring cute jammies! The gowns made me feel like I was sick or something - probably just a mind game, but ya know.

My cousin gave me some cute ones and I wore them on "visiting day" when everyone showed up at the hospital to see us. Didn't make me feel gorgeous, but a definite improvement over the everyone-and-their-brother-has-worn-these gowns :)

oh my goodness, I have SO many ideas for you...

jammies: i brought 4 pairs and used them ALL. They were all the button up the front style too, which were great especially for breastfeeding.

nursing tanks/bras: bring both. the nursing tanks ended up being really uncomfortable for me when my milk finally let down because my boobs were so gigantic!! so bring both and see which works better for you.

make-up: for me, i was SO glad that I brought my make up because I was in about a million pictures and I didn't want to look like I just had surgery ;)

help: take full advantage of nurses, lactation consultants and every other wonderful hospital employee that is there to help you. they are some of the most wonderful people you will ever meet and they can teach you so much while you are there.

last BIG piece of advice, and this one is important!! I think you are planning on a vaginal birth (I was too!) but please, please, please just read up on c sections too. I have had 3 very close friends who ended up having emergency c sections for 3 very different reasons and they all had such a rough time, mostly because they had no idea what to expect. i had a planned c section (because Parker was breech) and it was truly the easiest process for me. I really believe that was because I knew what to expect. I will pray that you can have the type of birth that you want but just be sure to know all the things that can happen so you can be as prepared as possible!

Sending lots of prayers and good thoughts your way for these last few weeks!!

Greetings from Houston, found ya via The Lanyons. What an exciting time. Knowing the baby is coming soon. My little guy surprised us at 36 weeks. I was totally not ready. Anyway, my favorite thing I brought (or had someone bring me) was a maternity dress that I never wore. I felt like an idiot in a hospital gown, or pj's in the middle of the day when people would come and visit me. The dress was easy access to the girls, for breast feeding, and easy access to the "who who" when the doctor came to check everything out. Oh and don't forget shoes, I wore flip flops but house shoes work too.

Good luck!

I don't have kids, but I am a birth Doula and I have found that it is helpful to bring chapstick, a hairbrush (I've seen some pretty bad matting), a camera, something to keep yourself entertained like a book/movie etc (Long labors can get boring), your own pillow, and cute baby clothes for baby's first photo that the hospital will take. Hope that helps!

praying, praying, for you guys and your sweet boy! i can't wait to see him on your blog!

i agree that cute jammies are a must- i just felt way more "presentable" in jammies than the gowns.

if you have a boppy, that's great to have if you're planning on nursing. my lactation consultant helped me figure out how it could be used.

i took a journal and it's so sweet to read what i was thinking/feeling that first night that i met my baby (who turns THREE this month... WAH!!).

and finally- DON'T take any preconceived plans or ideas, because it probably won't go that way! :o) just lots of prayers!!

In no particular order:

-Gowns/Pjs/robes (the prettier they are...the prettier you'll feel) ;)
-Slippers
-Cute outfit to wear home w/ shoes
-Sports bras to wear if you aren't going to breast feed
-Nursing bras if you plan to breast feed
-Nursing pads for your bras
-Panties. They give you mesh panties to wear but you will have to come home in something. I bought some Mimi maternity panties in Macy's that are black and gray (I picked dark colors to hide stains-I know that's gross).
-Pads. This is something else the hospital provides but I bought my own because they were a lot thinner than those huge ones they give you... I recommend the Always infinity-They are thin and light and much cleaner.
-Shampoo/Conditioner
-Face wash/soap/any toiletry items you may use
-Hair dryer/any styling tools (I have to have my straightener)
-Lotions/any smell good things (this will make you feel better!)
-Deo for the B.O.
-Tooth brush. I bought a brand new toothbrush and threw it in my bag that way I didn't have to worry about packing my tooth brush last minute.
-Toothpaste
-Dermoplast spray- This is something you can find at Rite Aid (or any drug store) and it is a life saver. You spray it down there to help with the pain! I bought two bottles to pack!
-Makeup-I left my makeup bag on the bathroom counter so I could just throw it in my big bag when needed.
-Hair ties/scrunchies/headbands-anything you want to use to keep your hair out of your face
-Hudson's comiing home outfit.
-Hudson's back up coming home outfit in case he happens to spit up or uses the bathroom on the first one.
-Any other clothes you want to bring for him to wear at the hosptial.
-recieving blanket
-his socks/booties
-bibs to match outfits
-pacifier (if you plan on using anything other than what the hospital will give you.
-MAKE SURE YOU all go ahead and get his car seat in the car you plan on driving home if you haven't already (our fire department helped put ours in!)
-camera
-video camera if you want to film you all leaving the hospital.
-list of phone numbers of people to call in case of emergency.
-Boppy pillow for feedings
-diaper bag to come home!
-clothes for your hubby
-chewing gum/mints/any snack food for the hubby
-Maybe some music to listen to to help you relax!

That's all I can think of! I hope that helps! Oh and make sure you get a pedicure leading up to the big day. In my opinion there is nothing worse than going into labor without a good pedi! haha

Enjoy plenty of rest/sleep/relaxation and all of the above NOW! I know it's cliche but rest as much as you can now. Also enjoy these last few minutes with as a couple....go on lots of dates with you hubby.

#1 piece of advice. Relax, don't freak out and trust that you are in good hands!

I had Nehemiah at 37 weeks and fortunately I had my bags packed! I ended up staying in the hospital for almost a week, so I ended up using everything I brought including DVDs, computer, toiletries, socks, comfy blanket...what I had to have someone bring me was non-low rise pants. I wasn't expecting to have a c-section, so the pants I brought to go home fit too low over my incision. Oh, and nursing bra and pads if you plan to nurse... Hope this helps!!!

Hi! I think your blog is super cute! You might have already thought of this, but you might bring a few outfits for him in various sizes because 0-3 months is really big a lot of times. I know people that have full term healthy babies that need preemie clothes at first so they aren't so big! I agree with the cute pj's and I really liked having dresses {I would wear a spaghetti strap dress with a nursing tank under it and could pull the strap off my shoulder too feed}. I didn't know if my baby was a boy or a girl so I didn't have anything but a coming home outfit {one boy and one girl} and a few gowns for him so he had to wear the hospital shirt and diaper most of the time and next time I will definitely take more changes of clothes for him {i LOVED the long gowns} so he can be in something cuter while we are there. I am sure you will do great! Good Luck!
